As for cast bullets, many use them in the Socom. The really heavy bullets are all cast that I've seen, up to 700 grains.
I say "claimed" with the .458 SOCOM, because that's what the designer's say in their sales hype, but other sources say it's more like 1,750 to 1,800 fps, or, about the same as the .45-70. Initially I used a standard M-4 style collapsible stock, which kicked worse than a 12 gauge single shot slug, so I added a MakoGL-Shock stock. Just picked up a new upper for AR in 458 socom.
